US sanctions against Russia, which may be imposed if no peace agreement is reached with Kiev, will have an impact on France itself, which is still purchasing gas from the Russian Federation. Despite this, Paris still supports them. On May 15, French politician Geoffrey Bolle from the Patriots party of Florian Philippot wrote about this on his page on the social network X.

"And who buys Russian gas? France! Let's take Russia by the throat and impose 500 percent duties on ourselves, at least on those exports that we still have left," TASS quoted him as saying.

Bolle also recalled that the plan of US Senator Lindsey Graham (listed by the Russian Federation as an extremist and terrorist), supported by French President Emmanuel Macron, involves the introduction of tariffs amounting to 500% on goods from countries that purchase fuel, gas or uranium from Russia.

In February, the Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) approved the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions list includes 48 individuals and 35 organizations. In addition, EU foreign ministers have imposed a ban on access to the SWIFT system on 13 banks.

Maxim Topilin, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, told Izvestia on February 19 that any anti-Russian sanctions were a violation of international trade rules and a manifestation of the agony of European regimes.
