- The media learned about the US initiative to restore the activities of the Russia-NATO Council
The United States proposed to resume the work of the Russia-NATO Council (NRC), which was discontinued in 2022 amid the start of a special military operation. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 15, citing sources.
It is indicated that the relevant point was put forward as part of a package proposal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"The United States has added new details to the proposal [to end the conflict in Ukraine], including a proposal to resume security negotiations within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council," the article says.
The Russia—NATO Council was established in 2002. The main objective of the association was cooperation in the field of military and political cooperation between Russia and the alliance. The last meeting of the council was held in January 2022.
Earlier, on January 13, Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Department of European Problems at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Izvestia that back in 2014, the alliance members unilaterally terminated cooperation within the framework of the NRC. NATO itself has abandoned normal contacts and mechanisms of dialogue with the Russian Federation.
