Switzerland has increased sanctions pressure on Russia by joining all measures of the 16th package of the European Union. This was announced on May 15 by the press service of the Swiss Federal Council.

According to representatives of the department, the decision on this was made at a meeting on May 14. The new restrictions will take effect on May 15th.

"At its meeting on May 14, the Federal Council decided to join the remaining measures of the 16th package of EU sanctions against Russia relevant to Switzerland, thereby increasing their impact," the website noted.

In addition, Switzerland has already imposed sanctions against 48 individuals, 35 companies and 74 vessels. Export restrictions on dual-use and military products have now been tightened. Chromium ores and certain chemicals that can be used in industry have been added to the list of prohibited goods. In addition, a ban has been imposed on the import of raw Russian aluminum.

The ban on software exports has been maintained in the energy sector.

"A new ban is also imposed on the export to Russia of software for oil and gas exploration, as well as on the supply of goods and services for the completion of Russian oil projects," the press service said.

The sanctions also apply to Crimea and Sevastopol.

In February, the Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) approved the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions list includes 48 individuals and 35 organizations. In addition, the EU foreign ministers decided to ban 13 banks from accessing the SWIFT system. It is specified that the introduction of the 16th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation was timed to coincide with the third anniversary of the start of the special military operation.

Maxim Topilin, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, told Izvestia on February 19 that any anti-Russian sanctions were a violation of international trade rules and a manifestation of the agony of European regimes.
