Imports of watermelons and melons from China to Transbaikalia increased fivefold

More than 1.2 thousand tons of watermelons and melons have been imported to the Trans-Baikal Territory since the beginning of 2025. Deliveries are carried out from China, the press service of the regional Rosselkhoznadzor reported on Thursday, May 15.

Compared to the same period last year in 2024, the volume of melon crop imports increased fivefold, writes ChitaMedia news agency.

The department's specialists conducted quarantine control of the entire volume of the imported cargo. Melons and watermelons were also checked for compliance with phytosanitary requirements. No harmful organisms have been identified.

Earlier it was reported that when choosing a watermelon, preference should be given to those that are sold in stores, rather than on the road and not in authorized places. Such fruits may contain heavy metal salts.
