Russia supports the de-escalation agreement reached between India and Pakistan and expresses hope for a sustainable normalization of the situation. This was announced on May 15 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We see this as an essential condition for ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, and we hope that the parties involved will continue to exercise restraint and prevent a new escalation of the situation," she said at a briefing.

The diplomat stressed that Russia has consistently advocated the resumption of dialogue and an increase in the level of mutual trust between India and Pakistan. The Russian side calls on both States to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis.

The Indian army on Monday, May 12, announced the normalization of the situation on the border with Pakistan after reports of drones and gunfire. It clarifies that both sides adhere to a mutual obligation to refrain from shelling and not initiate any aggressive actions against each other.

Relations between Pakistan and India have been strained since the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. 27 civilians were killed. On May 7, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced the start of the Sindoor military operation against Pakistan. According to the Pakistani Samaa TV channel, Islamabad launched retaliatory missile strikes on Indian territory.

Pakistan and India agreed on a ceasefire on May 10. US President Donald Trump noted that this happened with the mediation of the United States.
