Mushrooms can accumulate toxins from the environment, so it is better to collect them away from polluted places: roads, industrial areas. In addition, it is important to remember that some poisonous mushrooms look like they are edible. Vladimir Neronov, MD, an infectious disease specialist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about this on May 16.

He reminded that you can only collect morels, buttermilk, blueberries, cheesecakes, champignons. And fly agarics, pale toadstools, false honey mushrooms, and false chanterelles should be avoided.

"Study the distinctive features of edible and poisonous mushrooms. It is better to have a mushroom guide or a mobile identification application with you," the specialist suggested.

He also warned that damaged mushrooms, especially those with signs of rot, should not be harvested. In addition, if there is the slightest doubt about the edibility, then it is better not to collect mushrooms. However, in the case when they are still picked, you can not put them in the basket where the edible mushrooms are, such a "catch" should be kept separately.

"Even experienced mushroom pickers can make mistakes. Always check the mushrooms for the popularity of their variety, and if in doubt, it is better to stop using them. Don't pack alone, especially if you are a beginner. It's good to have a partner for help and support," the infectious disease specialist recommended.

According to him, it is better to consume mushrooms in small quantities in order to check your body's reaction to a new product in advance. However, the doctor reminded: It is not recommended for people with diseases of the digestive system to eat mushrooms, and during the period of exacerbation it is strictly forbidden.

Earlier, on May 3, it was reported that criminal liability could be imposed in Russia for collecting especially valuable mushrooms. Thus, under Russian law, picking especially valuable mushrooms can be punishable by up to four years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
