Russian scientist Ksenia Petrova, who was detained for importing frog embryos into the United States, was placed under arrest. This was announced on Thursday, May 14, by the United States Department of Justice.

"Today she was arrested on criminal charges," the press release says.

It is clarified that at first Petrova denied that she was carrying biological material in her luggage, but then allegedly confessed to the contrary. She also stated that she did not know about the requirement to declare frog embryos upon entry, but messages were found on her phone refuting these words.

In April, Bloomberg reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump refused to release Petrova. As indicated, the country's authorities refused to grant the Russian scientist parole because they considered that she posed a security threat to the United States.
