- The political scientist estimated the Democrats' chances of a majority in Congress and the Senate.

The US Democratic Party may win a majority in Congress in the 2026 elections. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, shared this opinion with Izvestia on May 14.
The Associated Press reported that according to a survey, the majority of Democrats are currently extremely pessimistic about the future of the party. Only three out of 10 Democrats are optimistic about the future; last summer, 6 out of 10 party representatives believed in their party.
"The Democrats just went through a disastrous electoral cycle for them, they lost their majority in the Senate, they don't have a majority in the lower house, and they don't control the presidency either. It is obvious that they are quite seriously pessimistic about the future. Plus, so far there is a lack of an urgent agenda to work with, as well as sane leaders who could rally the party around themselves," he said.
Dudakov noted that this is a typical and quite possibly temporary situation. According to him, Republicans felt about the same way about their future in the winter and spring of 2021 after losing the election.
"Now the leadership of the Democratic Party hopes that US President Donald Trump will mess up, make a lot of mistakes, and his ratings will fall in the future, after which the Democrats will have a chance to take revenge in the upcoming congressional elections to be held in November 2026," the political scientist admitted.
He suggested that the Senate would most likely remain Republican, while Dudakov called the chances of gaining a majority in the lower house of Congress high if the ratings of the US president did not remain very high. According to him, they range from 40-45%.
"The Republicans have a rather shaky majority in the lower house of Congress, literally in several places. Them (Democrats. 4-5 districts across the country will be enough to take away in order to get this majority," the expert concluded.
On April 5, a member of the American Congress from the Democratic Party, Al Green, at a rally called "Hands off!" announced that he would initiate the impeachment process against Trump within 30 days. On the same day, large demonstrations began in the United States against the policies of the American president and the imposition of import duties.
Later, the Axios portal reported that Democrats in the US House of Representatives expressed dissatisfaction with attempts to impeach the president of the country.
