The United States has opposed the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the NATO summit to be held in The Hague in June. This was reported on May 14 by the Italian ANSA news agency, citing diplomatic sources.

According to the agency, applications for participation in the meeting have already been sent to Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The issue of inviting Ukraine may be raised at an informal meeting of foreign ministers in Antalya.

"Almost all the allies expressed doubts about this choice in Washington," the source said.

The NATO Summit is scheduled for June 24-25 at the Peace Palace in The Hague, which is the official residence of the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

Earlier, on May 12, the Polish presidential candidate from the Confederation coalition of nationalists and Eurosceptics, Slawomir Mentzen, promised at a debate, if elected, to prevent Ukraine from joining the North Atlantic Alliance. He also stated that he would not agree to sending the Polish military to Kiev.

On May 9, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, announced that Ukraine would not be guaranteed membership in NATO under the peace agreement. At the same time, according to him, there is a possibility of the country joining the alliance in the long term.
