Retail trade turnover in Moscow has reached almost 2 trillion rubles

Retail trade turnover in the capital in January –March 2025 reached almost 2 trillion rubles, which was 3.2% higher than in the same period of 2024. This was announced on May 15 by Deputy Mayor of Moscow, Head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city Maria Bagreeva.

"The non-food sector has made a major contribution to the growth. Its turnover increased by 4.1% to 934 billion rubles. The largest growth was shown by cosmetics and perfumery stores, digital equipment, flowers, as well as repair goods," she said.

The turnover of food products increased by 2.1%, reaching 952 billion rubles. The sector grew largely due to the active development of ready-to-eat delivery services and the opening of cafeterias in stores.

In the first quarter of 2025, Moscow's share in Russia's total retail trade was 13.4%. According to the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city, the growth of consumer activity has affected the attendance of shopping malls in the capital. In January —March, traffic increased by 1% compared to the same period in 2024 and averaged 267 people per day per 1,000 square meters. m.

Earlier, on April 22, it was reported that the number of individual entrepreneurs in the capital in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to almost 461 thousand. This follows from the data of the Unified Register of Small and Medium-sized Businesses. This figure is 7% more than a year earlier.
