Likhachev explained Malaysia's need for floating nuclear power plants

Malaysia intends to purchase floating nuclear power plants (NPP) from Russia due to the geographical features of the country and the convenience of assembly. Alexey Likhachev, General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation, informed Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky about this on April 14.
"Malaysians choose floating nuclear power plants with a capacity of 100 MW each with a fuel cycle of up to seven or eight years, actually floating batteries," he said.
Likhachev explained that Malaysia was attracted to this option because of the country's long coastline and island structure.
"They can be created here in Russia and brought there [to Malaysia], in fact, only for consumption," added the head of Rosatom.
On February 27, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy. Shoigu stressed that certain successes have been achieved, in particular, we are talking about the floating nuclear power plant in Pevek, which has already begun its work.
