- Lavrov stressed the characteristics that unite Russia and the countries of the Muslim world

Russia and the countries of the Muslim world share many characteristics, including a commitment to building a multipolar order, rejection of neocolonial practices, and respect for the cultural and civilizational diversity of the world. This was announced on April 14 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He stressed that there are many Muslim citizens living in the Russian Federation. According to him, Moscow has traditionally maintained trusting, friendly relations with the Islamic world, and also continues to expand cooperation with Muslim states in various fields.
"We have a lot in common. This includes commitment to building a sustainable multipolar world order based on universally recognized norms of international law, respect for the cultural and civilizational diversity of the world, and rejection of any neocolonial practices, including unilateral restrictive measures," he said in an address to participants of the ninth forum of Young Diplomats of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Lavrov expressed hope that in the context of the 80th anniversary of the World Organization, special attention will be paid to ensuring the coordinating role of the United Nations in world affairs, observing the principles enshrined in its Charter in their entirety and interrelationship.
Lavrov and OIC Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha held talks in Riyadh on September 9, 2024. During the conversation, the sides discussed efforts on the Palestinian issue and the situation of Muslim communities in the world. It was clarified that the minister and the head of the organization noted "the importance of coordination and consultations to support international efforts to ensure peace and stability" in the world, especially in the member countries of the organization.
