The European Commission (EC) must immediately disclose information about the relations of the head of the department Ursula von der Leyen with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. This was announced on May 14 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.

He called on Brussels to respect the verdict of the court and disclose information about the correspondence between the head of the European Commission and a representative of a local consulting firm, Frederic Baldan. Szijjarto called for answers to questions about the financial topics of their correspondence, the reasons for the amount spent by the EC and the delay in vaccination, as well as why Europe was one of the last places in the topic of vaccines.

"We strongly demand that this correspondence between the president of the European Commission and the head of Pfizer be made public immediately," the Hungarian Foreign minister said on the government's website.

In addition, the minister stressed that after the court's decision Budapest would not accept criticism from von der Leyen. He called the head of the European Commission the last person from whom Hungary is ready to receive criticism regarding the internal affairs of the state.

Earlier that day, the EU court found von der Leyen responsible for concealing information about contracts for the purchase of vaccines against coronavirus. According to the newspaper Politcio, the decision could deal a devastating blow to her reputation.

On April 1, 2024, it became known that Belgian investigators had opened a criminal case against von der Leyen. The investigation began a year earlier after Baldan filed an application accusing the head of the EC of corruption after her correspondence with the head of Pfizer about the purchase of vaccines for the entire EU.

In early December last year, it was reported that more than a thousand citizens of the European Union supported the lawsuit against von der Leyen because of possible violations with vaccines.
