The maximum Class X solar flare that occurred on May 13 is the strongest in 2025. This was announced to Izvestia on May 14 by the head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI). RAN Sergey Bogachev.

According to him, experts have observed a series of flares: so far they are localized at the edge of the Sun, at a fairly large distance from Earth.

"If the consequences (geomagnetic storms — Ed.) are confirmed, then they will be on Friday. But only if they are confirmed," the expert emphasized.

Bogachev clarified that information about possible geomagnetic storms on the planet will appear later. He noted that some of them can reach the Ground with a 10% chance, but this cannot be confirmed at the moment. He also clarified that experts are waiting for additional data.

In addition, the head of the laboratory noted that the decline in solar activity will last about two or three years. According to him, the risks of new outbreaks will remain during this time.

The first X-power flare in the Sun in a month and a half was reported on May 13 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS. It was clarified that the maximum radiation was recorded at 18:38 Moscow time. According to experts, the outbreak occurred at the western edge of the Sun, so it does not pose a global threat to the Earth.
