Russia and Egypt are discussing projects to create special terminals for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG). Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, told reporters on May 14.

"Projects to create LNG terminals are being discussed, but I probably can't say anything more specific right now. But work is underway," he said following a plenary meeting of the Russian-Egyptian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

According to the minister, during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's May visit to Moscow, representatives of the oil and gas sector, among others, took part in the discussion of this issue.

On the same day, at the plenary session of the Russian-Egyptian Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Alikhanov announced a 32% increase in trade turnover between Russia and Egypt in 2024. According to him, this figure has exceeded the $9 billion mark. He stressed that Moscow is interested in increasing exports of meat, fat and oil, dairy and fish products to Cairo, as well as in increasing the volume of fruit and vegetable imports from the republic.
