A school in Allegany County in the US state of Maryland was flooded, the water rose to the level of the second floor. 200 people were evacuated from the facility. This was reported on May 14 by CNN, citing local rescue services.

It is reported that the incident occurred in the city of Westernport. According to the TV channel, the flooding was caused by heavy rains, which led to a rise in the water level in the Georges Creek River.

"150 schoolchildren and 50 adults were evacuated [from the school] with the help of 15 rescue boats," the publication says.

Earlier, on April 7, ABC News reported that 20 people died as a result of severe storms and floods in the southern United States. The infrastructure of several regions was damaged: roads were flooded, trees and power lines were felled.
