The State Duma deputy assessed the next package of EU anti-Russian sanctions

Another package of anti-Russian sanctions shows the weakness of the European Union in its pathetic attempts to destroy the Russian economy. Alexey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestia on May 14.
He noted that the sanctions are directed against third companies that allegedly interacted with the Russian Federation and violated the previous 16 packages of sanctions, as well as against some ships carrying oil.
"All issues are being resolved. We know and understand how and what to do. These sanctions are pathetic attempts [by the European Union] to show its alleged aggressiveness, which allegedly continues to tear the Russian economy to shreds. There is none of this, we have adapted to everything. These stations show the weakness of the European Union in pathetic attempts to destroy our economy," said Chepa.
In addition, the deputy stressed that Russia's relations with Hungary and Slovakia would not be affected in any way by their approval of the next sanctions measures. He pointed out that Moscow understands that the EU may try to put pressure on Bratislava and Budapest once again, especially after their leaders' trip to Russia to participate in celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Earlier in the day, the AFP news agency reported that the European Union (EU) had agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also announced that the new sanctions list includes 189 tankers that allegedly transport Russian oil under the flags of various states.
On the same day, the Euractiv portal, citing diplomats, reported that the ambassadors from Hungary and Slovakia supported the 17-package of anti-Russian sanctions due to its relative weakness.
