Auto expert named the most common mistakes when washing the engine

Improper washing of the engine can lead to serious problems with the engine, up to its overhaul. Alexander Smith, the owner of the CarBase chain of child care centers, warned about this on March 14, who listed the most common mistakes when washing the engine.
"Washing a hot engine is one of the most common mistakes when washing the engine compartment. Before starting work, it is necessary to make sure that the engine has completely cooled down, as a sharp temperature drop can lead to cracks on the exhaust manifold and other aluminum parts, as well as leak—proof gaskets," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Smith.
Before washing the motor, it is important to disconnect or isolate the electrical equipment and protect the air intake pipes. The use of a dielectric composition will help prevent a possible short circuit or failure of the ignition coil, the specialist advised.
To avoid damage to wires, connectors and gaskets, high-pressure devices should be used with caution and at an increased distance, the expert noted. He also advised that after the washing is completed, the engine compartment should be thoroughly dried before starting the engine.
On May 12, automotive expert Konstantin Ozhogin said that the lack of tightness of oil seals, gaskets and other parts of the power plant can lead to increased oil consumption in the engine, the problem is solved by replacing such elements.
On April 16, Ozhogin warned that mineral engine oil is devoid of important parameters that are necessary for high-quality and long-lasting operation of a car engine. Some motorists are mistaken, believing that this oil is suitable for old cars or those that are running out of motor life.
