Szijjarto called sanctions against Russia a path of economic suicide of the EU

The European Union (EU) is doing more damage to itself than to Russia with sanctions, but it intends to continue this path of economic suicide. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto told reporters on May 14.
According to him, the EU leadership is trying to force the Central European countries to abandon cheap and reliable energy sources. This creates a situation where household electricity costs may double, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
"The European economy has suffered much more from the sanctions than the Russian one. Nevertheless, the Europeans want to continue down this path of economic suicide," Szijjarto stressed, as quoted by TASS.
Earlier in the day, the EU ambassadors agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. It was reported that the ambassadors from Hungary and Slovakia supported the new package of sanctions due to its relative weakness.
According to media reports, the 17th package of sanctions may include a ban on issuing visas and freezing assets for high-ranking political figures.
