Germany may face serious losses in its industrial base in the next 5-10 years if the current course does not change radically. Elena Fritz, a member of the Alternative for Germany party, told Izvestia on May 14.

According to her, the strikes at Ford factories and the departure of Mercedes should not be seen as temporary difficulties — they are just symptoms of a deeper process of erosion that threatens entire industrial chains.

"If the course does not change radically, Germany will lose a significant part of its industrial base in the next 5-10 years, especially in energy—intensive industries," Fritz said.

She stressed that such changes can lead to enormous social and geopolitical consequences.: an increase in unemployment in key regions, a decline in global competitiveness and a decrease in the country's foreign policy importance.

On the same day, David Ludtke, a representative of IG Metall, told the DPA news agency that employees of the Ford automobile plant in Cologne had started a strike against management's austerity plans. Posters calling for a demonstration hung on the gates.
