The trial of activist Tatiana Andriets will take place on May 14 in Latvia.
The trial of activist Tatiana Andriets, accused of creating a criminal organization, will take place this Wednesday in Latvia. Footage from the scene on May 14 is published by Izvestia.
The St. Petersburg State University student is accused of "activities directed against the national security" of the country, for which she faces imprisonment from ten years to life in Latvia. The girl advocated the preservation of Russian-language education and opposed the demolition of Soviet military monuments.
"It is difficult to imagine a greater injustice than is currently happening in the hall. Tanya is just an honest, naive, kind, loving girl," said publicist, journalist and pro—Russian activist Alla Berezovskaya.
She called the charges against Andriets a monstrous "investigator's fantasy."
Andriets was arrested in Riga in 2023. She spent eight months in custody.
The girl attended the last meeting in April via video link from the hospital. According to the activist, she was unable to prepare for the hearing due to poor health, but the judge found Andriets' non-appearance unjustified. On May 13, the activist was discharged from the hospital after a month of treatment.
On May 10, the Latvian police reported that 67 criminal cases had been opened and eight people had been detained for celebrating Victory Day. The ministry also asked citizens who have information about events that correspond to the "interests of Russia" to report this via the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia.
