US President Donald Trump has called on Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa to normalize relations with Israel within the framework of the "Abraham Agreements." This was announced on May 14 by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

"President Trump called on President al-Sharaa to do a great job for the Syrian people and strongly recommended that he <...> sign the Abraham Agreements with Israel," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The American leader also called on the Syrian president to order all foreign terrorists, including Palestinian ones, to leave the country. In addition, to help the United States prevent the resurgence of the ISIL group (IG, the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).

Earlier, on May 7, the Reuters news agency reported on secret talks between Syria and Israel mediated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the agency's interlocutor in the Syrian security forces and a representative of one of the Middle Eastern intelligence services, indirect contacts between these countries are aimed at resolving security and intelligence issues, as well as building trust between the two states that do not maintain official relations.
