A man was detained for drug trafficking in Altai

A resident of the Altai Territory was detained for growing cannabis in large-scale shipping containers. This was announced on Wednesday, May 14, by the Main directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

"During the implementation of operational information, a 29-year-old villager was detained, suspected of attempted sale and cultivation of cannabis," the agency said in a Telegram post.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry, in 2022, the defendant installed four shipping containers on his land plot in the Pervomaisky district of Altai and hid two of them in the ground.

It is specified that the suspect bought plant seeds on the Internet, and then grew them. To do this, the man even installed underground lighting, fans and hoods. The defendant himself lived in the two remaining containers on the surface.

It is assumed that the drug planter harvested three crops in a year. He packaged the dried plant and sold it contactless to unknown wholesalers. The man received the payment on his own account.

During the inspection of shipping containers, law enforcement officers found and seized 69 pots of cannabis and more than 3.5 kg of dried plants.

Criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of crimes under Part 3 of Article 30 ("Preparation for a crime and attempted crime"), Part 4 of Article 228.1 ("Illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs on a large scale") and Part 1 of Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal cultivation on a large scale of plants containing narcotic drugs").

Some of the defendants managed to escape after the jury acquitted them.

A preventive measure was chosen for the person involved in the form of a subscription not to leave and proper behavior. Other circumstances of the incident are being established.
Earlier, on April 29, the transport police in the Krasnoyarsk Territory seized more than 100 grams of mephedrone from illicit trafficking. The detainee confessed that he had purchased narcotic drugs in an online store and distributed the prohibited substance in a contactless way.
