M-46 howitzer crews destroyed an APU mortar in the Red Army area

Crews of 130-mm towed M-46 howitzers of the tank unit of the Center group of forces destroyed a mortar of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Red Army area. This was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday, May 14.

It is clarified that at first, reconnaissance using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) revealed the camouflaged position of a 120-mm mortar of Ukrainian militants. Then the intelligence was received by the calculation of the M-46 cannon.

The Russian military took aim at these coordinates and defeated the enemy with two shots. The control was conducted by UAV operators.

As indicated in the military department, thanks to the coordinated and rapid actions of unmanned aerial vehicles and artillery crews, the AFU equipment was destroyed with minimal ammunition consumption. After confirming the successful completion of the task, the Russian soldiers disguised the howitzer and retreated to a pre-equipped shelter in case the enemy opened fire in return.

"I call it a "small computer." Moreover, there are numbers there, you twist and turn and you get the result already. There is nothing complicated about this tool. The most important thing is that the whole calculation works smoothly. That's why they call us the "organism," said Senior Sergeant Fanil Akhmetkiryaev.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry showed footage of howitzers working on mortar crews, armored vehicles and manpower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The footage shows how the Msta-S crew prepares the howitzer for battle, aims the gun at the coordinates set in advance and fires a salvo. Fire on the enemy is conducted from a 152-millimeter cannon using a high-explosive shell with an extended range.
