Macron did not see a legitimate justification for the confiscation of assets of the Russian Federation

Frozen Russian assets cannot be withdrawn due to the lack of a legal framework. This was announced on Tuesday, May 13, by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Today we don't have a legal framework to do this," he said in an interview with TF1 TV channel.

At the same time, the French leader added that Europe uses the proceeds from frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine.

On the same day, Politico newspaper wrote that the UK was insisting on transferring frozen Russian assets to a separate investment fund. We are talking about the transfer of almost 200 billion euros stored in Belgium.

On the eve of May 12, European Commissioner for Defense Andrew Kubilius announced that the European Union would send 900 million euros of income from frozen assets of the Russian Federation for the purchase of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine.
