Gergiev stated the need for new stages for the Bolshoi Theater
The Bolshoi Theater teams need new opportunities. Valery Gergiev, Director General of the Bolshoi Theatre and Artistic director of the Mariinsky Theatre, told reporters on Tuesday, May 13, following a meeting of the Council for Culture and the Arts.
"This is my point of view, it is shared by very, very many [Bolshoi Theater groups] who need new opportunities, even new stages. I think the team needs both a concert hall and a new theater stage," he said, adding that it would probably be a combined project.
So, according to Gergiev, theatrical productions and concerts can take place in the same building.
In addition, he recalled the 250th anniversary of the State Bolshoi Theater, which will begin in March next year.
Earlier in the day, VTB CEO Andrey Kostin told Izvestia that a new concert hall would be built in Moscow as a division of the Bolshoi Theater. He noted that the theater does not have a concert hall that could serve as a venue for opera and ballet.
