A new concert hall will be built in Moscow as a division of the Bolshoi Theater
A new concert hall will be built in Moscow as a division of the Bolshoi Theatre. This was announced to Izvestia on Tuesday, May 13, by Andrey Kostin, head of VTB, following a meeting of the Council for Culture and the Arts.
"One of the key issues is the construction of a new concert hall in the center of Moscow as a division of the Bolshoi Theater. The Bolshoi Theatre does not have its own concert hall today. There are two stages, a historical one and a new one, but there is no concert hall that could transform into a venue for opera and ballet," he said.
According to Kostin, the historical building of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg is expected to be closed for major repairs in the near future.
Another issue discussed at the meeting was the construction of music venues in Kemerovo, Vladivostok and Kaliningrad, the head of VTB said in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Igor Baldin.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters, said that cultural heritage and creative wealth are the foundation for the consolidation of Russian society. Addressing the council members, he stressed that the support of various cultural projects is a great contribution to strengthening the unity of Russia.
