Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz on Tuesday, May 13, called the upcoming talks on Ukraine in Istanbul "extremely important" and expressed hope for their success.

"This is a very important negotiation process. In the past, very important steps have been taken for peace and stability. Remember the grain deal, remember the prisoner exchange, the work done to ensure the security of the Black Sea. We look forward to these negotiations with hope," TRT quoted him as saying.

According to Cevdet, Turkey will do everything possible to ensure the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated direct talks on May 11, suggesting that the Ukrainian side resume dialogue on May 15 in Istanbul three years later. US President Donald Trump, in turn, called on Ukraine to immediately accept Russia's proposal.
