Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, arrived on a working trip to the Murmansk Region, where he met with Governor Andrey Chibis. The main topics of conversation on May 13 were the development of the regional fisheries complex and environmental issues.

"The Murmansk Region is one of the most significant regions of Russia in many areas of the economy. The region is known for its mineral deposits, including rare earth metals. The mining industry is well developed, in particular, the extraction and processing of raw materials for the production of phosphorous fertilizers. Metallurgy, the transport sector, and tourism play a significant role," Patrushev said.

It was also noted that the region plays a significant role in the field of fisheries. In order to stimulate investment in the industry, a special "keel quotas" mechanism has been launched. Thanks to him, eight factories and six ships have already been built in the Murmansk region. During the trip Patrushev visited one of them — "Captain Sokolov".

Speaking about the environmental sphere, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that over 2.7 billion rubles have been allocated to the region over the six years of the implementation of the Ecology national project. The Murmansk Region participated in the activities of three federal projects: "Integrated Municipal Solid Waste management System", "Forest Conservation" and "Clean Country". As part of the latter, one of the largest urban landfills in the Arctic Circle was reclaimed. Patrushev, together with the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and Rosprirodnadzor, checked the result of work on the facility.

Afterwards, the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the region discussed the participation of the Murmansk Region in the new national project "Environmental well-being". It is also planned to implement the activities of the federal projects "Closed-loop Economy", "Russian Water" and "Forest Conservation" in the region.

Earlier on May 13, it was reported that Patrushev, during an inspection with a Lapwing of the fishing vessel Kapitan Sokolov in the Murmansk region, indicated that users of the region catch more than 10% of the total Russian fish volumes. A modern fish processing factory with a capacity of up to 150 tons of frozen fish and canned food per day is located on board the vessel.

Also during the trip, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the project for the disposal of a sunken floating dock in the Murmansk region is unprecedented for Russia, since the region's water area is of strategic importance for the development of the Northern Sea Route.
