The Sun experienced its first super-powerful flare in a month and a half

The first flare of maximum power class X in a month and a half has been recorded on the Sun. This was announced on May 13 on the website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"An X-level flare is being registered on the Sun right now. The preliminary score is X1.2. This is the first event of this class after about a 1.5—month break," the message says.

It is specified that the maximum radiation was registered at 18:38 Moscow time. The flare occurred at the western edge of the Sun, so it does not pose a global threat to the Earth.

Earlier, on April 1, an outbreak of the penultimate power class M occurred on the Sun. It is specified that a powerful flash lasting 16 minutes.

A day earlier, scientists reported a sharp increase in solar activity. According to their data, over the past four days, more than 50 flares have occurred on the surface of the star.
