Trump announced the lifting of US sanctions against Syria

During the first day of his visit to Saudi Arabia on May 13, US President Donald Trump announced that he intends to lift sanctions against Syria in order to "give it a chance."
The American leader explained that he was prompted to make this decision by discussing the situation in the Arab republic with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"I will give the order to end sanctions against Syria to give it a chance to prosper," the Reuters news agency quoted Trump as saying at an investment forum.
He added that this week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is due to hold a meeting in Turkey with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani.
"It's their time to prove themselves. We will lift all sanctions. Good luck, Syria, show us something special," the US president wished.
Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia on May 13 as part of his first state tour after winning the presidential election in January. The US president's plane landed at King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. During the trip, the American delegation will expand cooperation with the Arabian monarchies. Washington will also discuss defense and security issues with Riyadh, including the situations in the Gaza Strip, Yemen, and Ukraine. The visit of the US president will last until May 16.
On May 12, The Telegraph newspaper reported that Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa offered his American counterpart various investment opportunities in the country, including the construction of a "Trump Tower" in the capital. According to the publication, this is how al-Sharaa wants to achieve an easing of US sanctions.
