Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, called for an understanding of Moscow's position on Ukraine before a meeting of the parliamentary faction in Berlin on May 13, noting that reasonable peace negotiations are impossible without taking into account the interests of the Russian Federation.

"We should not always divide everything into good and evil, but should finally take into account Russia's security interests," German broadcaster RND quoted her as saying.

Weidel, in turn, described the trip of French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British and Polish Prime Ministers Cyrus Starmer and Donald Tusk to Kiev as a political show.

Earlier, on April 11, Weidel said that Germany's increased arms supplies to Ukraine could be an explosive decision. She called for support for US efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
