The State Duma dispelled myths about tax deductions

Nikita Chaplin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, shared on Tuesday, May 13, information about the main misconceptions in the field of tax deductions.
According to him, one of the most common myths is that a tax deduction can only be obtained when buying a home.
The MP recalled that there are several types of deductions, including property, social, standard and investment, for example, when paying for medical treatment or education. He explained that in this case, citizens have the right to return 13% of the amount spent within the established limits. Also, many people are mistaken, thinking that the tax deduction is provided automatically and can cover all expenses, the parliamentarian added.
"Even if you purchased an apartment but did not file a declaration, you will not be able to exercise your right to deduction," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
"There are certain limits. For example, for a property deduction, the maximum amount of expenses from which you can receive a deduction is 2 million rubles. Social deductions also have their own limitations. If you spent 500 thousand rubles on treatment, but the maximum deduction is 120 thousand rubles, then you will be able to return only 13% of this amount," he explained.
Chaplin stressed that all citizens who pay personal income tax to the state, including the self-employed and individual entrepreneurs, can receive a tax deduction.
"The deduction is given only to the one who actually paid for the service or is the owner of the facility. If the mother has paid for the child's treatment, but the documents are issued to the father, then only the father has the right to receive a deduction," the deputy concluded.
Earlier in the day, Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, told how to apply for a tax deduction for apartment repairs, RT reports. The deputy noted that in order to receive a deduction for repairs, you should write an application to the Federal Tax Service (FTS).
On March 13, Igor Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said that citizens can return more than a million rubles when buying a home with a mortgage if they pay personal income tax at a rate of 22%, NSN reports.
On February 20, lawyer Madina Tebueva, in an interview with Izvestia, said that a tax deduction can only be obtained for those services provided by organizations or individual entrepreneurs (IE) registered in the official register of operators of sports and recreation services. According to her, compensation is paid for certain categories of expenses, including sports and fitness expenses.
