Vostochny cosmodrome is operating normally amid wildfires

In the Svobodnenskiy district of the Amur region, forest fires were recorded near the Vostochny cosmodrome. This was announced on May 13 by the press service of the Roscosmos state Corporation.

"According to the administration of the closed administrative-territorial entity (BUT) Tsiolkovsky, at the moment the fire is localized, there is no threat to the city," the organization's Telegram channel reported.

It is clarified that the work of the cosmodrome is not in danger, its services are operating normally. Roscosmos reported that the necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of fire towards a strategically important facility.

They added that the Vostochny space center is taking part in extinguishing fires. Part of the cosmodrome staff, heavy equipment and fire trucks have been sent to fight the fire.

Earlier that day, in the city of Tsiolkovsky, a forest caught fire near residential buildings amid massive forest fires in the region. The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Amur region later added that more than 70 people and about 20 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire in Tsiolkovsky.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported that the total area of fires in the Amur region amounted to more than 3 thousand hectares in the period from 11 to 12 May. It is noted that over the past day, fire and rescue units of the region went out to extinguish fires of dry vegetation about 45 times.
