Western agricultural producers cheat when working in foreign markets, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with members of the all-Russian public organization Delovaya Rossiya on May 13.

According to the head of state, foreign agricultural producers actively use hidden subsidies that contradict the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"They're all cheating, really. Everyone is signing documents within the framework of the World Trade Organization <...>, and hidden subsidies are coming in huge quantities and creating huge preferences [for Western enterprises], including in our market," Putin said.

Also, during a meeting with members of Delovaya Rossiya, the Russian president said that he received personal appeals from major foreign brands asking them to allow them to return to the Russian market. He stressed that the return of foreign companies should be approached pragmatically, taking into account the interests of Russia.
