The investigation initiated by the European Parliament (EP) into the deputies who visited Moscow during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War testifies to the crisis of democracy in Europe. This was announced on May 13 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov.

"This shows how freedom of speech works in the West. They created a "rule of law", and now they are punishing their own deputies, who are supposed to live in a free country," TASS quoted Ivanov as saying.

According to him, the investigation is another confirmation that "what is happening now in Europe is far from democracy."

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the EP launched an investigation into the trip of a group of MEPs to Moscow during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

More than 25 foreign leaders, as well as military personnel from Russia-friendly countries and foreign delegations attended the parade on Red Square. At the end of the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the foreign delegations at the reception for coming to the capital of the Russian Federation for the celebrations.
