It has become more difficult to sell used cars in Russia

The average time of sale of a car on the secondary market in Russia increased by 21% compared to last year. This applies not only to niche models, but also to mass-market cars that used to find a new owner in a matter of days. The project experts told Izvestia about this on May 13. Likvi.com .
So, if earlier the Toyota Camry was sold in an average of 35 days, now it is rare for an ad to close in less than 50 days. Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris sellers used to take up to 21 days to find a buyer, now the process can take up to 40 days.
Previously, the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Polo models were considered very liquid in terms of resale. Last year, Octavia found a new owner in an average of 23 days, but now sellers often wait 38 days. In the case of the Polo, the sale period increased from 30 days to 46 days. This situation confirms that even persistently popular models are not immune from the influence of current market conditions, experts noted.
Analysts explained that car prices are unstable and are directly related to the ruble exchange rate, the rise in the cost of spare parts, and inflation, so many people expect prices to fall before buying. The desire to save money and not lose money with the residual value of the car increases the time of purchase and sale on the "secondary market". At the same time, sellers do not want to part with their car and are also waiting for the most favorable terms of sale, which makes it difficult to make a quick purchase.
Earlier in the day, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said that sales of new passenger cars by the end of 2025 could decrease by 20% compared to the previous year and reach 1.25 million cars.
On May 7, it became known that by the end of April, 102.1 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 25.5% less than in the same month last year. Haval Jolion became the Russian market leader in the crossover and SUV segment in April.
