Russian scientists have questioned the ability of the human body to survive a flight to Mars, citing potentially serious health threats. This was stated by Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), in an interview with TASS on May 13.

He stressed that they have Russian and Chinese Moon exploration programs, as well as initiatives by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to colonize Mars. However, the flight range and cosmic radiation are causing scientists concerns.

"Actually (to Mars. — Ed.) 250 days of flight at second space speed. And there are factors of influence (on health. — Ed.) much more serious. There are heavy charged particles, and we don't know very well how they affect the human body. And this flight still raises questions about whether the human body can withstand heavy charged particles in outer space," Krasnikov said.

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), on the social network X (Ex. Twitter) announced on April 17 that the possibility of a human flight to Mars is becoming more and more real. Prior to that, Dmitriev wrote on a social network about the importance of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the United States in the field of space exploration.
