Sobyanin spoke about the expansion of the Moscow tram fleet

100 new single-section trams "Lion Cub-Moscow" will be delivered to Moscow, said Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
According to him, the first half of the wagons will be transferred to the P.L. Apakov depot this year, the second — next year. As a result, "we will fully complete the renovation of the Moscow tram fleet," the mayor wrote in his Telegram channel.
The Lion Cub can carry up to 150 passengers, and 41 seats are provided in the cabin. "The cars will have everything you need for a comfortable trip: a climate control system, multimedia screens, connectors for charging mobile devices, places for strollers and bicycles," the mayor said.
The new trams will feature an innovative system of increased autonomous running. The onboard power storage system will allow the "Lion Cubs" to travel at least 4 km without a contact network, and on average about 7 km.
"The cars from the new supply will be used to replace the previous generation, as well as to expand the tram fleet, reduce traffic intervals on existing routes and on new lines under construction," Sobyanin stressed.
About 750,000 trips are made on Moscow trams every day on weekdays, while the number of passengers is constantly increasing.
The historic Apakov tram depot on Shabolovka was reopened in April this year after reconstruction. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin took part in the opening ceremony of the depot, which began operating in 1909. According to him, the depot has been serving the most popular routes in Moscow for more than 115 years. In the mid-2000s, they wanted to demolish the depot building, but then the metropolitan authorities decided to revive it.
During the reconstruction, the specialists preserved the historical appearance of the depot — the spatial planning structure of the historical complex and the architectural and artistic design of the facades of the main building. At the same time, the traffic pattern inside the depot has completely changed, becoming more convenient.
