- Experts have highlighted the frequent mistakes of graduates on the Unified State Exam in history and social studies

Graduates make the main mistakes when writing the Unified State Exam in history and social studies in the question of knowledge of historical figures and the establishment of cause-and-effect relationships. In addition, tasks to test the ability to compare historical events, phenomena, and processes are also problematic. Experts from Umskul, the largest online educational platform for preparing for the Unified State Exam and OGE, told Izvestia about this on May 14.
Graduates taking social studies in 2024 found it difficult to complete the tasks of drawing up a complex plan.
"It is also difficult for graduates to work with terms and concepts — they cannot figure out the meanings of simple words and analyze ambiguous ones, as well as evaluate complex social phenomena, understand scientific texts or express their own thoughts," the experts noted.
At the same time, students have difficulty preparing written papers on social issues, correlating various theoretical approaches, and drawing conclusions based on theory and experience.
Umskul experts also identified tasks that did not cause difficulties for schoolchildren. One of the most easily solved questions in the history exam turned out to be task No. 1 — on chronology. 70% of the students completed it. Working with the map in task No. 11 showed 81% of the successful completion of the task. Finally, task No. 14, working with a text source, became the absolute leader in performance. It tests the ability to analyze a document, determine its author, the time of creation, the causes and consequences of the events described, as well as understand the author's position. In 2024, 83% of the students completed it.
As for the social studies exam, statistics show that graduates are most confident in working with diagrams in task No. 9. 91% of the completion of the task in 2024 was recorded. The students also do a good job of searching for information in the text — 87% of the students successfully completed task No. 17. Finally, task No. 21 for analyzing the supply/demand graph closes the top three — 73% of students completed it.
"Despite consistently high results, students still face difficulties passing the Unified State Exam in history and social studies. Therefore, it is worth paying special attention to the study of problematic topics," the experts concluded.
Earlier, on March 28, Anastasia Yekushevskaya, academic director of the Skysmart online school, told Izvestia how to effectively use the remaining time to prepare for the Unified State Exam and minimize stress. According to her, if a student decides to prepare in a short period of two to three months, it is better for him to focus on one subject in order to achieve a good result.
