The European Union (EU) countries are trying to disrupt the peaceful efforts of the US administration to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 13 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto at the international conference on the automotive industry in Budapest.

"Over the past few years, the EU has constantly made wrong decisions that have led to the prolongation of the conflict, the supply of weapons and the direction of cash flows to Ukraine," TASS quoted him as saying.

Szijjarto also condemned the EU countries' approach to the truce in Ukraine. He recalled that in July last year Budapest offered the parties to the conflict to cease fire, but this decision was not supported in Kiev and in Europe.

On May 9, Szijjarto said that European politicians were dragging out the conflict in Ukraine because of a wrong strategy and fear of responsibility. He noted that EU leaders believe that negotiations on a ceasefire should begin only when Kiev finds itself in a "strong" position. He added that this approach is wrong, as Ukraine's position is only getting weaker every day.

On May 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the West's continued supply of weapons to Ukraine was delaying prospects for a settlement of the conflict. Such actions, on the contrary, lead to escalation.
