Europe cannot effectively participate in negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, as it completely takes the side of Ukraine. This was announced on May 13 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"If we talk in general about Europe's participation in such a framework negotiation process, then since Europe still completely takes the side of Ukraine, it cannot claim to have an unbiased approach and a balanced approach," he stressed.

According to Peskov, Europe's approach to resolving the conflict contrasts with the position of Moscow and Washington on this issue. The Kremlin's official representative added that European countries are aiming to continue the armed conflict.

He noted that the Russian side continues to prepare for the talks, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday in Istanbul.

On the same day, political scientist Alexander Asafov said that President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky shares the logic of the European Union (EU) about the eternal conflict with the Russian Federation. According to him, Zelensky, along with EU leaders, is trying to look for political tricks to get a pause and then continue the conflict.

On May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15. On the same day, Zelensky responded with an ultimatum — he demanded a cease-fire from May 12.

On May 12, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, stated that without a cease-fire, it is impossible to start negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Alexander Konkov, an associate professor at the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that the EU was not interested in peace talks on Ukraine and was seeking to develop a "spiral of violence" against Russia.
