President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky shares the logic of the European Union (EU) about the eternal conflict with the Russian Federation. This was stated by political analyst Alexander Asafov in an interview with Izvestia on May 13.

"The position of Zelensky and his entourage shows that they do not need any cessation of hostilities, they do not need peace. They associate their political and not only political future only with constant conflict, preferably with constant escalation," the political scientist said.

According to him, Zelensky, along with the leaders of the European Union (EU), is trying to look for political tricks to get a pause and then continue the conflict.

"The search for political tricks together with European leaders who are solely interested in selling their own weapons and making money from this shows that [Zelensky's] ability to make decisions is quite limited. Secondly, he shares this logic of eternal conflict with Russia," Asafov said.

He noted that the EU is only interested in selling its own weapons and making money from them.

"They (the EU and Ukraine. They are trying to create some conditions that Russia will definitely not be able to fulfill," the expert concluded.

On May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15.

On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky responded with an ultimatum — he demanded a cease-fire from May 12. US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to accept the Russian proposal immediately, after which Zelensky announced that he would arrive in Istanbul on May 15.

On May 12, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that without a cease-fire, it is impossible to start negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Alexander Konkov, an associate professor at the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that the EU was not interested in peace talks on Ukraine and was seeking to develop a "spiral of violence" against Russia.
