The developers of the domestic Atom electric car conducted the first of three crash test cycles, during which both bodies and assembled pre-production cars with a number of prototype components were tested. This is stated in the message of the Kama company, which was received by Izvestia on May 13.

The company stated that the main task was to confirm the effectiveness of the body structure and launch the calibration of passive safety systems, which is an important step for a model without a central pillar. It is noted that the tests are conducted in accordance with international safety standards and include frontal and lateral crash tests, as well as pedestrian protection checks.

The list of crash tests included a head-on collision with a rigid wall (50 km / h); a frontal impact, in which the total speed of the deformable barrier (incomplete overlap) and the car is 100 km/ h; a side impact on a pole (32 km / h) and others.

It is stated that the targets for passenger protection in certification crash tests have been achieved, and the effectiveness of the body structure to preserve passenger living space and protect the battery from damage has been confirmed. Data was also collected for the development of passive security component management software and the correlation of computer models with physical test results was performed.

Two more rounds of testing are planned in the future, which will include crash tests of production vehicles with an expanded program, including a rollover test.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 2,647 electric vehicles were sold in Russia in the first four months of 2025. This is three times less than in the same period last year (8,126 units).

On January 28, Kama showed the first pre-production prototypes of the Atom electric car. These are full-fledged cars with working functionality, their design fully corresponds to the future production version. Atom's serial production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, and electric cars will be produced at the Moskvich plant in Moscow.
