Estonian police officers have detained vandals who desecrated the monument to Soviet soldiers "Bronze Soldier" at a military cemetery in Tallinn. This was announced on May 13 by Inna Toater, head of the Ida-Harju police department, in an interview with Delfi.
On the evening of May 8, law enforcement officers discovered graffiti on the monuments and launched an investigation into this fact. On the same day, the police established that two people were involved in the act of vandalism.
According to Toater, two teenagers turned out to have desecrated the monument. It is specified that the police have already taken statements from them.
The head of the operational bureau of Pykhya Prefecture, Vaiko Waher, shared that in recent years this incident is the third case of hooliganism that has occurred with this monument. On May 9, the monument was put in order.
The desecration of the monument on May 11 was reported by Postimees. It was clarified that the monument was painted with white paint. A criminal case was opened into the incident.
On April 2, the Russian Embassy in Estonia announced that employees of the Estonian Military Museum had destroyed monuments in honor of Soviet sailors, soldiers and officers who liberated the republic from Nazi invaders at the Tallinn Military Cemetery.
