- Zakharova announced a targeted response by Poland to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow.

Russia will respond precisely to Poland's actions after the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, while respecting the interests of the state. This was announced on May 13 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on the air of the Solovyov Live TV channel.
"Now we are responding specifically to their inadequate steps. We respond adequately, we respond taking into account our interests. <… > In this case, when they closed and announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, they are, of course, hitting themselves," she said.
According to Zakharova, such actions by the Polish authorities also affect the citizens of the republic.
The day before, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced that the country had decided to close the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Krakow. Sikorsky clarified that the closure was allegedly due to acts of sabotage. At the same time, the country's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henryka Mostsiskaj-Dendys, said that Poland had recognized Russian diplomats from the Consulate General in Krakow as persona non grata.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 12 that relations between Russia and Poland are in a deplorable state amid the closure of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation. He clarified that the reduction of Russia's diplomatic presence in Poland is an indicator that bilateral relations between the countries are getting worse.
