In the near future, Brazil, together with the state corporation Rosatom, will begin construction of small nuclear power plants (NPP). This was announced on May 13 by the Minister of Mines and Energy of South American Brazil Alexandri Silveira.

According to him, Rosatom is currently the only company in the world that has small nuclear reactors in commercial use.

"Therefore, the President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir] Putin instructed Rosatom to conclude a partnership agreement with the Brazilian government as soon as possible so that we can develop small nuclear reactors that will be important for the energy of the future," the Estadão newspaper quoted him as saying.

The minister called the opportunity to "produce energy inside industrial enterprises" one of the advantages of such reactors. He stressed that this is beneficial for those who need a lot of energy.

Silveira clarified that in this way it is possible to produce energy where it is needed. According to him, it is important to be able to replace oil power plants with nuclear ones, as it is clean energy that does not pollute the environment. In addition, the Minister expressed support for the resumption of the construction of the Angra-3 NPP in Brazil using the so-called safe management model.

On May 10, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Villera announced plans to organize a meeting of the 12th high-level commission on cooperation with Russia in 2025. President of the Republic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in turn, stressed Brazil's interest in building nuclear power plants jointly with the Russian Federation. According to him, Russia remains an important partner for the country in the field of gas, oil and the construction of small nuclear reactors.
