Two Transbaikalians were convicted of trying to join a terrorist organization


The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced two residents of the Trans-Baikal Territory to imprisonment for attempting to join an international terrorist organization (ITO) banned in Russia. This was announced on Tuesday, May 13, by the press service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia for the region.
The defendants were sentenced to nine and 12 years in prison to be served in a high-security penal colony, of which they will serve the first four years in prison.
"Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Trans—Baikal Territory have identified an additional episode in the case of two systemic adherents of terrorism who attempted to travel to the territory of the countries of the Middle East region to join the MTO," the report says.
In respect of one of the defendants, the verdict entered into force.
Earlier, on April 29, a man was detained in St. Petersburg for publicly justifying terrorism. In Telegram, the person involved published comments supporting the activities of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
