- The Foreign Ministers of China and Brazil discussed the Ukrainian conflict and its settlement

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira in Beijing on Monday, May 12, where they discussed the Ukrainian crisis and confirmed their mutual intention to help resolve it.
"The sides exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and expressed support for direct dialogue and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and stated that they would continue to play the role of the Friends of Peace group to gather greater international consensus in order to promote a political solution to the crisis," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The parties also analyzed the high frequency of exchanges between the two heads of state in recent years. Separately, the Ministers held an in-depth discussion on the implementation of the results of last year's visit of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to Brazil and discussed preparations for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's visit to China.
Earlier in the day, the Chinese Foreign Ministry welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for direct talks with Ukraine. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian added that negotiations are the only possible way to end the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that Beijing is ready to cooperate with Moscow and Kiev and contribute to reaching peace agreements.
