The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Philippines (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday, May 13, reported that the volcano Kanlaon located on Negros Island spewed a column of ash and smoke to a height of about 4.5 km.

"A moderately explosive eruption occurred in the crater of the summit of the Kanlaon volcano today, May 13, which lasted five minutes based on seismic and infrasound data," the report says.

Red-hot lava flows descended along the southern slopes of the volcano within about 2 km from the crater, the institute said. Separately, experts clarified that at the moment the volcano is in a state of "magmatic unrest", with increased chances of short-term explosive eruptions.

There is no information about the victims, but the institute advised to evacuate all settlements within a radius of 6 km from the volcano in case of further eruptions.

The Antara news agency reported on April 16 that five new eruptions of the Semeru volcano occurred in the province of East Java in Indonesia. According to experts, the column of volcanic ash rose to a height of 1 thousand m above the crater, reaching 4,676 m above sea level.
